Dr. Fernando Gómez-Baquero is Director of the Runway Startup Postdoc and the Spinout Programs, currently recognized as one of the most outstanding academic commercialization programs in the country, where he manages a portfolio of startup companies with investments from Cornell Tech and the Jacobs Technion Cornell Institute.
Fernando Gómez-Baquero holds a Ph.D. in Nanoscale Science and Engineering from the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at the University at Albany SUNY, Masters Degrees in Nanoscale Engineering and Economics, and a Bachelors Degree in Operations Research Industrial Engineering. He has worked for over 20 years researching advanced nanomaterials for the semiconductor industry and energy storage applications, on the economic impact of pervasive nanotechnologies, and on technology entrepreneurship. Dr. Gómez-Baquero’s experience in the nanotechnology industry includes work in the production and characterization of carbon nanotubes, the development of polymer/nanotube composite materials, and the engineering of doped silicon nanomaterials. Dr. Gómez-Baquero is recognized as a leader in the fabrication of nanoengineered electrodes for lithium-ion batteries using semiconductor processes and using nanotechnology to improve the performance of lithium-ion batteries. He has also served as Board Director of NY-BEST, one of the largest consortiums of energy storage companies in the world.
Dr. Gómez-Baquero has been a founder, co-founder, and early technology lead of a variety of companies in hardware and software. He currently serves as a lead national instructor for NSF’s i-Corps program where he is a mentor for hyper-technical entrepreneurs building companies in diverse fields such as digital health, proptech, clean energy, education, cybersecurity, among many others.
