REGISTER FOR THE “PILOT PITCHFEST” IN NEW YORK CITY ON 12/12 | APPLY TO THE $80,000 PILOT:NEW YORK CITY POLICY STUDIO
What is the Pilot Policy Studio?
The trial of a new program to pair New York-based academics with State and City government agencies to work together on urban technology pilots in the City of New York. The Studio was originally proposed in Pilot: New York City, a research-backed roadmap to grow the local urban innovation ecosystem, co-authored by Cornell Tech’s Jacobs Urban Tech Hub and New York City Economic Development Corporation.
What is the goal of the Studio?
To utilize the strength of local research universities to help government agencies deploy meaningful technology pilots with strong evaluation criteria, validate the results, and publish findings and potential policy recommendations.
What is the funding opportunity?
Up to $80,000 in catalytic funding in 2024 to support at least one academic-agency pairing. The Pilot Policy Studio may offer in-kind support for additional pairings.
What is the Pilot Pitchfest?
An event in which New York government agencies and academics will have an opportunity to deliver ~2 minute pitches on urban technology pilot projects they wish to run in 2024. All you need to “pitch” is one slide on your proposed pilot project (template here). The intent of the event is to create a low-stakes forum for people to share early pilot ideas before applications to the Studio are due on January 16th.
The Pitchfest will occur on December 12 from 3-5 PM at the Community Classrooms inside Pier 57, located at the intersection of 15th street and the West Side Highway. While we recommend in-person attendance, we will provide the option to pitch or observe by video conference to those who are not able to make it.
Our soft-launch of the program earlier this year sold out, so RSVP ASAP to the Pitchfest! Please note, while anyone can attend the Pilot Pitchfest as an observer, only academics and staff at government agencies are eligible to pitch.
What are the big upcoming deadlines?
- ASAP: RSVP to the Pitchfest on 12/12
- December 7th: Submit a template slide with your pilot project to cara.eckholm@cornell.edu
- December 12th: Attend the Pilot Pitchfest to learn more about the Studio and “pitch” your pilot idea
- January 16th: Submit an initial application for funding
- Early February: Finalists notified and asked to interview
